It’s the time of year when we begin to think about preparing the Thanksgiving meal, shopping for Christmas gifts, and finding the perfect New Year’s get-together. As we spend our days in a rush, it’s nice to think of the things that make the holidays special. Towns and communities throughout Douglas County are hosting events that celebrate the nostalgia and traditions of this time of the year. Here’s what’s going on in Highlands Ranch.
The community of Highlands Ranch will be lighting its Christmas tree during the Hometown Holiday Festival. On December 4th, from 4:30pm-7:30pm, residents and visitors can enjoy caroling, entertainment, and visits with Santa. There will also be food and reindeer! This free, family-friendly event helps kick off the holiday season and connect the community.
The Recreation Center at Eastridge is hosting a Holiday Teddy Bear Tea Party on December 5th. At this kid-friendly event, families can enjoy tea, small snacks, and a musical children’s show. The tea party lasts from 10:30am-11:15am, and the whimsical show runs from 11:15am-12pm. Members of the recreation center can purchase tickets for $11 up until the date of the event (tickets are $15 the day of the party). This Teddy Bear Tea Party is for all members over the age of two, and is perfect for children and parents who want to enjoy holiday festivities.
Another event at the Recreation Center at Eastridge is the performance of the Nutcracker Highlights. This condensed, one-hour version of the classic ballet is the perfect way to ring in the holidays. Audiences will be able to experience the magic of Clara’s journey to the Land of Sweets on Christmas Eve. These dancers are dedicated performers from the International Youth Ballet. Performances of this unique event are on November 20th at 7pm and November 21st at 3pm and again at 7pm. Tickets are $7 up until the day of the ballet, and they are $10 at the door. This family-friendly event will allow people of all ages to experience the magic of this traditional story.
Fun events like these help residents of Douglas County slow down and enjoy the holiday season. They also remind us of the importance of being connected to our community and giving back to others.
