This weekend, my family and I went to see Disney’s Frozen on Ice at the Pepsi Center. I love all of the Disney movies, especially Frozen. This performance brought the magic from the Oscar winning movie to life and was wonderful to watch.
When the show began, we were greeted by Mickey, Minnie, Ariel, Cinderella, Nemo, Donald Duck, and other beloved Disney characters. They all came together and told the audience that there are many different ways we can show people we love them and that there are different types of love. This set the scene for Frozen, which is a story about both romantic and sisterly love.
It tells the story of sisters Elsa and Anna, who are royalty of the kingdom of Arendelle. Queen Elsa has the ability to turn things to ice, and, when her powers are discovered by her sister and her kingdom, she flees the castle. Princess Anna and her friends Kristoff, Sven (a reindeer), and Olaf (a talking snowman) go after Elsa and try to convince her that she can use her powers for good.
Disney on Ice did a wonderful job of capturing the magic of Frozen. Because all of the performers were skating as well as acting, they were able to show a wide range of their talents. They were lip-syncing to the audio from the movie (because it’s difficult to skate and sing), but they were able to demonstrate their impressive skating abilities. The costumes were beautiful and were the same as the cloths the characters wore in the movie. Many of the costumes for characters like Sven, Olaf, and the trolls were very impressive as well.
The special effects were great. There were sparks that popped up every time Elsa used her powers. Different colors of lighting were used to show the change from summer to winter (because Elsa “froze the summer”). Also, there was an inflatable snow monster that guarded Elsa’s ice castle and fake snow!
All in all, this was a wonderful performance and I had a lot of fun! All of the songs from the movie were included and the story was practically the same as the film. Frozen on Ice was very special, and I’m glad I was given the opportunity to go. It was a magical event that was fun for people of all ages!
